What's happening in Ukraine?
On 24th of February, Russia horrified the international community by invading its neighbour Ukraine under the pretext that it was 'de-nazifying' the country.
On the day of writing (3rd of March), the major port city of Melitopol and Kherson have been captured by Russian forces admist heavy artillery fire which has targeted both residential areas and government buildings.
Heavy civilian casualties have become a feature of this new, European war, with many now going without sufficient food, medical supplies or access to clean water.
The United Nations has warned that there could be up to seven million refugees fleeing the country as the country descends into a full-scale humanitarian crisis.

British Red Cross
The British Red Cross is part of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), which unites 15 member charities who are experts in humanitarian aid and specialists in different areas of disaster response. Their appeal is helping to reach families and communities in Ukraine and the border countries.
So far, Red Cross teams in Ukraine have distributed over 30,000 food and hygiene parcels and provided food, warm clothes, and other aid to around 8,000 people sheltering in metro stations. Your support with allow the Red Cross to:

The Ukraine Appeal has been set up to specifically look after the children in this now war-worn country. With rampant shortages of basic supplies such as food, water, clothing, the underprivileged children of Ukraine urgently need your help to survive.

Save the Children
Even before the war, 1.5 million Ukrainians were already displaced thanks to eight years of conflict in eastern Ukraine. Save the Children is now planning to deliver lifesaving aid to 3.5 million vulnerable children and their families.
The need has never been so acute. Amid freezing temperatures, power cuts and food shortages, every day is a struggle to survive. Families are forced to flee their homes in droves. Your support could help Save the Children to:
